I can't play any mp3 files on the following system....

ABIT BF6 motherboard
latest Award bios update 02/08/2001-I440BX-w977-6A69KA19C-XU
Intel pentium III 500E cpu
192 megs of SDRAM
ATI rage128 Xpert 99 SD AGP
Soud Blaster Live ! series (WDM)
Quantum Fireball lct08
Sony CDRW 16X10X40
Creative CDROM 32X

I have tried moving the sound card to all of the various PCI slots and rebooting.
I have downloaded the lastest Intel bus mastering driver for the BX440.
I even tried another video card and sound card from another system... still no luck.
I also moved the Quantum harddrive to the other system and the
MP3 sound files worked OK.

I can play CD's, wav and MID files. When I try to play or burn
MP3 files, the sound plays back as blips and beeps. I can't even identify the words being sung.

I think the problem stems from the ABIT BF6 motherboard bios settings.

HELP... any advice would be appreciated.

Try to uninstall your sound card, and then install it again. If no luck, then format hard drive and install everything again.

What O/S are using ?

i dont know if you have tried this yet but i would uninstall the sound card drivers, making sure you also go into safe mode and delete the device from there too. then find the latest driver for your sound car and install it.

goodluck

I reformatted the Drive C partion and reinstalled win98 se.

I downloaded the latest intel drivers for the intel 440BX chipset on the ABIT BF6 motherboard.

Reinstalled just the soundblaster drivers without the creative labs
play center2 software so that I would use the MS multimedia
application only. Even tried Winamp.

Still no luck..

Any other suggestions
