On the Post on my Gigabyte GA-6BXC mobo I get a Floppy Disk Error(40) message. Doe's any one know what this error means. The floopy disk is not working very well. If I format a disk it starts ok but then then stops and displays the messages "Please insert disk or complains about the drive not being mounted or the disk is in use by another program. Do I just need to change the floppy Im worried it my be the floppy controler.

Floppy Disk Error(40) message can be any of these:

1.Floppy cable is not connected properly;
Could be it s gotten loose or was'nt connected correctly. If the light stays on its hooked up wrong.

2.Bad floppy cable or pinouts damaged;
If the floppy disk drive appears to be setup properly an the light is not always on it is possible that the floppy drive cable may be bad. Also, check that the pinouts(pins) on the drive and mobo are not damaged from a mishap...:eek:

3.Bad Floppy drive - I/O ;
If none of the above then unfortunately it is likely that either the floppy drive is bad or the I/O board or Motherboard is bad.

Start with no.1 and if you have questions just ask. :) :)

Thanks Rocketmech
It was the floopy drive. Replaced tonight and it's working fine.
