I just received my new AV7266-E. I've had problems with other KT266A boards, so I decided to first test it out of the case. I installed only the ATX connector and, of course, CPU and heat sink. When I power up the Enermax 431 from the switch on the back of the power supply, it powers the mother board without any other wires connected. How is this possible?

i would guess that it is a default setting on the motherboard. i have the same mobo and although i didn't test that when i first got it i can tell you that it doesn't do it with the ATX power switch connected.
by powering up do you mean theat the little green mobo light comes on? if so it is only there as a warning to let you know that the mobo has power and not to mess with it while power is fed to the board. look in the manual. it doesn't necessarily mean the board is on, just that it recieving power from the PSU.
