I am getting a DSL line and I have an offer of PCI or USB modem, which one should I get?

P.S. What is better DSL or Cable, I have heard that DSL is stable in terms of d/l speed

Personally, I would get the PCI DSL modem. USB modem could run into bandwidth sharing issues with your other USB devices should you get any.

As for which is better, DSL vs Cable, it can be a toss-up depending on your situation and providers. Normally, there is enough bandwidth sharing going on with Cable modems that you will experience "slow" times. While bearable for the majority of users, it bugs the heck out of me sometimes (I have cable modem)....especially see these between 3-11pm.

DSL on the other hand usually comes in slower "max transfer" varieties than Cable (assuming like pricing). Spend a lot more money and you can get speeds that exceed Cable modems. However, with DSL, its a dedicated line from you to the DSL providers internet backbone. What this means is that you are not normally effected by traffic from others since you are not sharing your bandwidth! While peak rated transfers might not be as speedy as Cable for the same price, on average, not having to share means that you are faster overall.

Thanks for clearing that up Target, I don't have any USB devices so far so I will probably go with USB, as far as speed, I had cable from MediaOne and my d/l would not exceed 120 kilobytes on fast servers and still it would start at ~5KB and work it way to 120 (5-10-15-20....you get the idea) but that is on server like T1 or T3 average would be like 10-20KB (I had a slow machine)
