I want to "update" an old pc for my kiddo i have an old p 150 w 48mb ram and and lots of vintage goodies inside. the old machine works great it is just a little slow by todays standards. I was wondering what i could upgrade the processor to if any or what i might do for under $100 bucks

You can only go so far with Upgrading the CPU. But for basic use you dont need allot of CPU power anyway, my laptop for instance is a 233. The recomend I would make to you is put in as much RAM as you can into the board, and stick with win98 SE for an OS.

G'luck with it, and I hope he enjoys it :)

did the memory thing I upgraded from 16 meg to 48 meg. that helped some it was an expensive upgrade at that around $120 and all the slots are full I guess I should quit putting perfume on an old pig trying to make it smell better and fork out the cash for a modest system wonder what I could do for less than $300 using my old modem, 17 Gb hard drive, Creative PCI sound card, floppy and cd-rom

you can get a nice system for pretty cheap. If you dont mind ebay a PII and Mobo wont cost more the $70 or so if not less. Or if you prefer to buy new check out http://www.pricewatch.com for some good deals on perhaps a Duron CPU a socket A Mobo some SD RAM, and you may need a new case unless you know your old one is ATX (so much for recycling old parts) *shrug*

you can always use you "old pig" as a happy linux box for a proxy server ect.

warfish: for under $300 you can get a Celeron bare bones system. If using pricewatch, check on any vendors at http://www.resellerratings.com .
Good luck.

I was doing some lookin around at compgeeks and found an amd K6 550 for the socket 7 configuration and was wondering if it would drop in my p-150 socket? and if so I wonder if the bios would need updating.
