I have an LG CD-R drive, which I bought, then installed myself. Everything worked fine until my computer (AMD K6 2, 333Mhz, Win98) got a virus and in the end I was forced to re-install windows along with some other system files. Now, after I reinstalled windows, when ever I put a blank CDR in the CDR drive, my computer reads the disk, then freezes and Im forced to shutdown. Im thinking maybe it has something to do with virtual memory or something. How can I fix this problem? Im very good with computers yet I still cant figure this out. Can someone help?

Do you have UDF writing software installed (Ahead InCD, Adaptec DirectCD etc.)? This software may have a problem that causes your system to hang. When a blank disc is inserted the UDF software will recognize that. The software will start a program that asks if the disc should be UDF formatted (newer versions only for CDRW discs, older do that for CDR too). There might be something wrong with this software. I had a lot of trouble with Ahead InCD (Nero). Hope this helps.

You should disable Auto-Insert Notification on the CDRW drive. That's probably causing this, and it tends to screw up actual writing too.

This definitely sounds like an auto-insert notification issue.

Some packet-writing software (such as DirectCD that comes with some versions of Easy CD Creator) requires that you have auto-insert turned on for it to work properly.

When I install Easy CD Creator 4.0 from the original CD that came with my drive, it installs DirectCD as well, and ENABLES auto-insert whether I like it or not.

Uninstall DirectCD if this is the case, reboot, and then MAKE SURE auto-insert is turned off afterward.

Also, remember that any time you move a CDROM drive around in your system (anything that changes it's drive letter) it will re-recognize the drive, and by default, auto-insert notification will be turned ON once again.

Does anyone actually use DirectCD anyway?
With todays 10x and higher CD burners, and CD-RW media costing less than a buck a disc, it seems a complete waste of time for 99% of users...
