well a few days ago i asked if it is good to buy from newegg. You all said yes and that you had no problem with them. Well here is my problem. Ordered processor from them. I got It, looked at it AN ENTIRE ROW+ of pins were bent or ruined. What garabge. Not to mention to return it i dont get money I get CREDIT plus 15% restocking fee. Or a replacement that i have to pay shipping for. WHY should i have to pay a shipping for a replacement of somthing that they broke. What a f**kin B**ch. I am so mad.

Well just a warning.

Just makes me sad:(

i just read their terms and conditions and they spell it out in plain english. by buying from them you have accepted those terms whether you read them or not.

that siad it really does suck that they did that to you. do you know who gets the refunds/replacements on things like this (in general i mean). the ones who make the most noise about being screwed.

don't e-mail them, call them up on the phone and make as much fuss as is possible about it. demand to speak to the department head and put across your case as strongly as you can without getting abusive. have a list of all the things you want to say all laid out in front of you when you call. go through the terms of sale and make a note of the important bits, and stress that you accepted these terms assuming that a reputable company like that would only send out working goods and not obviously broken/unusable ones.

be firm and confident but don't speak to phone puppets who don't have any authority to give you what you want.

they have insurance against damage in transit just like you would when you return stuff.

try not to directly accuse them of doing it themselves but stress that you have not got what you have paid them for and however the damage happened you are at the very least entitled to that no matter what their terms of sale are.

good luck, and let us know how you get on.

remember that you are the one person out of 1000's who have had problems with them, and let them know also that they did come highly recommended (butter them up a bit).

I read through the term before I bought from them, I just did not think such a well know and recommend company would send me absoulute ****.

I brought a hard drive from them and it was shipped in bubble wrap, not the normal foam and box. It hasn't failed yet, and I at least have the option of going to the manufacturer.

Did you try getting an RMA or just returning it? There shouldn't be a restock fee on an RMA.

Best of luck getting it replaced.

Just a reminder

You do have to remember that even though they shipped it, it doesnt mean they did the damage. Most likely the box it was sent in (a small box) was crushed by fed-ex/UPS. They arent always the one to burden with your problems.

well i think I know how it got crushed what ever moron put the chip it the little holder picked it up with 2 fingers and pushed so hard (really not that hard) that he pushed in the pins. I love assembly line workers:rolleyes:

Well, when I ordered my 1.2 T-Bird back in May, it came in an anti-static plastic case and all the pins were fine. Looked like it was sealed by AMD.

It does suck that it happened to you. Try some of these other suggestions, but be warned... Like my Mom used to say "You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar..." Try being firm, but be nice about it... Try to work with them and explain that you hope they will work with you...

Good Luck!

I purchased a new MB / Processor / HSF / Vid Card from Newegg about two months ago. Everything was well packed and in A one shape. I chose them because they had one of the best rankings at resellerrating .com. Any of us who have purchased anything over the Internet understands that there is a risk involved when you can't see what you are buying up front. Sorry you had a problem. As recommended above talk in a firm but fair tone to someone of authority. You may get some satisfaction.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, but you are getting good advice here. Try to control your anger and speak to them reasonably and rationally, and hopefully they will respond in kind. I have ordered from newegg several times (my most recent arrived yesterday) and while not all of the orders were what I would consider well packaged, nothing has been damaged. My new Celeron 900 processor looks fine, but then, it is a retail boxed one and Intel is pretty good about packing them securely, plus I have the 3 year manufacturer's warranty to fall back on. I have read numerous posts of successful RMA situations with Newegg, just try to be nice and they probably will try to work out a decent arrangement. If you get too nasty, they will probably fall back on their "fine print boiler plate" and shine you on. Good Luck,
Chuck

I don't know if the processor you purchased was a retail or oem, but I purchased a retail Athlon and the way it was packaged didn't impress me much. I scared to buy OEM.

Good luck to you.

I bought about 7 or 8 parts from them about two months ago. The modem and the HSF were both shot. I requested a RMA and sent the package off about a week later I got my refund.
If I were you I would request a RMA which you can do from the website.
Have you attempted this yet? If not, try to pursue all avenues before you start bashing a reputable company such as newegg.
They have been pretty fair to me and others thus the high marks on reseller ratings.

they just sent me an RMA. I have to send it to them (MY MONEY) and they will sned a replacment

Sending it to them probably saves you more than the 15% you would have lost had you requested a refund. Ya think?

What does OEM stand for?

Rugor
12-24-2001, 02:54 PM
Original Equipment Manufacturer

OEM parts are parts in wholesale rather than retail packaging being intended for sale to resellers and system integrators. They usually cost less, have poorer warranties and come with no software bundle other than drivers.

Some manufacturers, notably ATI, also clock their OEM parts lower than regular retail parts. So a retail Radeon 8500 will be clocked at 275MHz core where the OEM version would be clocked at 250MHz core.

They are also known as white box parts.

I'm buying all my parts for my new computer system from NewEgg on Saturday. I hope things go well and no parts are broken.

I just bought $900 worth of parts, including: motherboard, OEM CPU, HSF, 512Mb DDR RAM, DVDROM, CDRW, 2 Western Digital HDs, video card, sound card, floppy drive, and NIC.

Everything was packaged great, no damage, and when I put the parts together the system wouldn't start. I didn't get the video card properly seated:(

After reseating the video card, it fired up, and is now a screamer running Win98se and Linux Mandrake 8.1 in a dual-boot setup.

Never had a problem with NewEgg, and I've placed over 15 orders with them in the last 2 years.

PS - Here's the whole story of the system (http://www.techimo.com/forum/t5877.html)

I am happy with Newegg.com Service. Newegg is my #1 Vendor from now on. Sometime is ok to pay $2.00 to $3.00 more, because of the service & nice people in Customer Service.( Speak perfect English with good communication). I am so sorry to hear that anyone have problem with Newegg.com. Ship promptly. RMA department gave me RMA number with out a question asked!!
You have to call them & talk to CSR!!!!!

Sometimes it pays to pay the few extra bucks and go with the
retail boxed processors which include a fair HSF combo coupled with a three-year warranty.
I've placed maybe 20 orders with Newegg, and have been completely satisfied with them, although I haven't had to return
anything yet.

Oh, I hope that doesn't happen to me. This weekend I'm going to purchase an Athlon XP 1600+ OEM, Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu, ECS K7S5A motherboard, 256mb Crucial DDR, and a Leadtek GeForce2 MX200 32mb w/ TV-Out. If something goes wrong, oh boy will I be pissed.

I just bought a KVM switch from them and it came very well packed and much quicker than most of the etailers I order from. I am extremely pleased with the transaction, not to mention their price was much lower than most other sites on a hard to find item.

Sometimes stuff happens, don't be quick to judge newegg on one order because it is sure to happen again with someone else.

I have bought twice now.

Motherboard came through fine. Now I'm waiting for the processor for it.

Newegg has a good customer service, I try to call several time has no problem at all. Put me on hold for less than a minute. I plan to get a Ti200 of PNY next week from Newegg.

I had ordered from TCWO so many time & customer service is SxxK!! & now TCWO can go take a hike. I also ordered from different places like Axion, Mwave or Buy.com. Overall newegg is untouchable. Newegg ROCK!!!!

I have never had a problem with Newegg, but I made a mistake and bought a MB from Z-Buy. It was bad. I got an RMA, and returned it. After 2 weeks, they sent me an obsolete version refurbished MB.

Now they will not answer my e-mails, rarely answer their telephone, when they do answer, the guy responsible is out. I wish I had read resellers ratings first.

Guess I am just screwed.

I bought nearly all the components for my last build from Newegg, and all arrived much quicker than anticipated, packed excellently, and in perfect condition. I would recommend Newegg to anyone looking to buy computer components.

I too buy all my parts from Newegg, I build an average of 2 systems a month and never have had a problem. Love the refurb section, haven't been burned on it yet! Best yet, the shipping charges are much easier on the wallet then a lot of those companies listed on pricewatch.

Just recieved my OEM p3 1ghz, radeon allinwonder, & 256mb ram from NEWEGG and everthing works perfectly. The FEDEX box was in perfect condition(UPS boxes delivered here always get crunched).
Cudos to FEDEX delivery. Cudos to NEWEGG's handling/packaging of products.

All three products were packaged properly and work great.

I just grabbed an old toasted Duron700(overclocked1000/fried when fan died) and couldn't bend the pins without using serious force. But, when mounting chip incorrectly(pins misaligned), I could bend pins a little but only a fool would use the amount of force needed.
Even the Celeron 466(replaced by P3) required alot of force to bend pins.

How about a picture of those bent pins? I want to see the entire row of damage so that I could try to recreate it with my Celery or Duron.
Must have been stepped on or something.

sorry i have no way of giving you a pic. It was really terible. I tried just to give the row an little push to get them staright and relized the amount of force neded to push in those pins. WOW the moron that put in the box must of drpoed on the ground and then have gone over it with a truck.

(i know it isnt that hard to do.)

But i should be getting a replacmet soon. After a little fighting on the phone.

I think I disagree with you, mistakes do happen man, yes I agree that they should fix the problem using their own fees, but I mean you cant just say not to buy from a good place over 1 mistake... they are only human

last week I screwed up the Ti200 just bought from Newegg.com, I call them for RMA number, CSR was so good to ship me overnight with no charge (free shipping). I recieved it next day. I shipped that defective part by ups ground. Newegg ROCK!!!!

Sometime you have to call Newegg CSR, they are very nice people there!!

My next order will be a new complete system to build it for my best friend, I will order from newegg.com. :D
