monitors. I'm fairly close to buying another PC(probably from Dell) and I really am having a hard time convincing myself that I need to put in an extra $250-350 for a trinitron or whatever monitor, because it's so much better than the standard 17"/19" monitor that comes with the PC group. Any thought's on this? I'm a little perplexed on this and could use some other views.

While i have no view about this, I am big on NOT spending money unless I need to.
right now i am running a completely updated pc, with an Amtron 17" monitor. the monitor itself is well over 5 years old. Look at it this way, are you still watching an OLDER tv? It's just glass (or if your really spiffy, LCD) and it never gets "old"
the only problem I might run into is drivers

Jim,
Some of the advantages of the newer trinitron monitors is the perfect flat screen, better visual clairity, faster refresh rates compaired to most of the older standard monitors. If your happy with the visual and refresh rates of your existing monitor then I would say there is no need in upgrading.
just my 2bit thoughts on the subject http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Consider that extra $300 you'll pay and divide by the three years (minimum) that you will own the monitor. That's $100/year - maximum.
How many hours a day do you spend in front of a monitor? Is it worth it to you to have less eyestrain, easier reading, more clarity? Better graphics? Something you're gonna LOVE ?? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Get the largest display you can afford - you won't regret it (IMHO)
I'm kinda biased tho; I spent over $1k on my aperture grille monitor http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

I had the same question about 3 months ago.
It was only a little more money to upgrade to a 19" FD Trinitron from a regular 19", so I went with it. Come to think of it, Dell had a special deal going on at the time which gave the upgrade for free http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Anyway, I am very happy with my FD Trinitron. Everything does seem to be clearer, etc.
Spend the extra money and go for it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Mitsubishi uses the same tube design but it somehow seems a tad flatter.
If you get a chance to compare them side by side, do so.

When i built my computer i got the sony 17 trinitron, same as the dell trinitron, and once you look at it and use it you'll Never go back to a regulare non flat screen monitor. My parents have a gateway with a regular 17in and looking at i know is so wierd you can distinclty tell were it curves no that i use my flat screen sony all the time. Beautiful monitor, excellent refresh rates, high resolution in true color. Spend the extra money, get the trinitron, you will be Happy you did so.
