I have a Compaq 7940 Amd Athlon,
on the diagnostics utility it says I have three slots, Two of which have 128 SDRAM, I put the second one in myself. But I don't see a third slot??
It says the "third" slot is free?
Any ideas?
Thanks

There is either a 3rd slot on the motherboard or there isn't. If you have visually verified that there are only 2, then the utility is incorrect.

Its quite possible that the utility was written before the design of the board was changed, or, they simply didn't feel that modifications they made to the board design needed to be updated in the utility.

Try to download an updated version and then run it again.

If you look closely at the board you will probably see a place next to the other two slots where a socket could be. It may even be labeled for it. The chipsets are probably even there to support it. Just slight differeces in revisions.
