Hey guys! I posted this topic about a week ago but now I've got a few more updates and questions.

1ghz Thunderbird Athlon

Super Orb (When is this coming out and where can I buy it, polycon?)

Abit KT7-Raid MoBo

Plextor 12x10x32 Atapi CD-RW

Pioneer 16x DVD

4 (yes 4) 30 gig 7200 ATA-100 HDs (For use w/ raid) I am going to do DV editing so I need massize space and fast writing. I keep hearing people tell me this is bad b/c of the master slave system. How is this bad, I'm not sure what you'll mean by this?

ATX-File server case from www.pcdepot.com (http://www.pcdepot.com) Check this case out, it's expensize but I really like it. I'm going to put a plexiglass side in it with neon lights!

400 Watt ATX power supply

Cheapest 56k modem I can find.. Unless you'll have one that you really reallt like

1.44 Floppy Drive (Duh)

1 512meg PC-133 unbuffered non-Ecc Ram
1 128meg PC-133 unbuffered non-Ecc ram

Internal 250 Zip Drive

Windoze Me (should I stick with 98?)

Ups Power Supply (from compu-plus only $66 bucks)

Cheapest Fire Wire Card I can find

Netgear 10/100 (I like this card alot)

sound Card - Sound Blaster Platimum 5.1

Speakers.... Waiting for Soundblaster to release the DTT3500... Or if they’re no good Klipsch (Which do you'll think is better)

Video Card - Waiting for Voodoo 5 6000... Is this ever coming out? for the mean time my old banshee. Should I wait for the Rampage or wait for the geforce III or get geforce ultra??? To many choices! I can't decide! On paper it looks like the Voodoo 5 6000 will be the best...

Does the Abit KT7 come with usb ports?? If so how many?

I am also looking for a TV card but don't know which one to get... Any suggestions?

With my HD setup I will be putting 2 HDs in the internal 3 1/2 bays and 2 in the 5 1/2 bays (with mounting brackets) - Theses are ATA-100 HDs what type of cabels am I going to need? Mainly how are these cables going to connect to the mobo? 2 HDs per one IDE cabel (thats what I am expecting)? Is there two IDE ports for HDs on the HD??

Well thanks a lot guys for your help, I relly really appreciate it!

I do have this advice -- if speed is really important to you with DV, you should truly consider SCSI. Not only are the drives much better built but the sustained throughput is substantially better than ATA/100 bus + disk drive. The drawback is cost but of course you get what you pay for.

avoid the voodoo...get a geforce ultra

Do you know how much better scsi is? It is a whole lot more money! I am not doing DV editing as a job or anything, it's just for home movies so I don't know if I need the scsi. But is it a dramatic increase compared to my setup which would be, pretty much ATA-400?

Also LilRice why do you say stay away from the voodoo?

Check that RAID board out, a few folks are complaining about how there Promise card benches/works faster/better and go back to using it AFTER buying the KT7 RAID, I use a KT7 (non RAID) with no complaints...thought of a A7V with a Promise card or otherwise?

don't think you'll be needing scsi. DV transfer requirements are fairly low compared to full res uncompressed video. The most important factor is sustained transfer rate. you should be okay. it used to be an issue between scsi/ide/fiberchannel, but not so much anymore. In fact, one of the best/leading companies in RAID arrays for video post uses striped ide drives in a scsi enclosure (scsi bus provides higher throughput than ide currently, but again, not an issue for you using dv). Anyway, it's Medea - www.medeacorp.com (http://www.medeacorp.com) - check then out. One enclosure uses 6 striped drives and sustains 55 MB/sec. and theses enclosures can be striped for further enhanced performance. not only that, they have huge capacities (6 drives 225+ GB per enclosure) 2 of them striped would offer more than 100 MB/sec sustained. 4 way striping over a dual channel ultra160 scsi yields over 200 MB/s. All using IDE drives because they're cheaper.

long and short of it - you'll be fine with what you have listed. Hell you could easily get away with 2 striped drives. Careful though - performance will drop as the drives fill up and start to use the slower linear speed inside tracks of the disks - which Medea has circumvented by using Zone Strip Technology - which is actually pretty simple - while it's writing to the slow inner track of one drive, it's writing to the fast outer track of another, guaranteeing a minimum sustained transfer rate of 55 MB/s regardless of the available space on the drive.

Anyway, hope this helped some.
