Perhaps the reason most have not gone into a "great deal of detail" is that each motherboard manufacturer has slightly different ways of flashing the BIOS.
I would reccomend that you go to the mobo's mfg website and usually, not always though, the BIOS updates and FLASH instructions will be in the the "Support" section. Look for the type and version of mobo that you have and look to see if the latest BIOS update is newer than the one you have now. If so, then download the update, usually it will be in a "zip" format so you will need WinZip or another "unzipping" software. Usually there is a "readme" text section that will help when you get it unzipped.
Try that.

What type of mobo you got??
www.ocworkbench.com has extensive forums about individual mobos and all that relates to them, including extensive 'How To:' sections including BIOS flash.

It doesn't make any diffence as to what revision your board is unless the maker changed the specifications. Two places can help you I.D. your board and BIOS.
www.motherboards.org (http://) and
www.mrbios.com (http://)
At mobo.org start "Mobo Cop"
At Mr. Bios click the inspector. Either of these should give you the info you need. Then procede to ECS and pickup the latest flash utility and .rom file. Both of these must be put on to a DOS formatted disk. Warning! Full format by a DOS Windows system such as Me or 98, do not use Win 2000 or XP. Study extensively as flash failure means Cooked BIOS Chip. You will also need a Windows Emergency DOS based start up disk. Make sure to hit F5 key as soon as it boots. Please procede to the ECS forum at www.ocworkbench.com (http://) They have extensive info about flashing good luck wallie_x

Please go to the forum @ www.ocworkbench.com Click 'Forum' on the Web Page's header, click the "ECS" forum and follow the 'How To Flash a BIOS" It will give you all the information you need and why you should not format the floppy you need to use to flash the BIOS with Win XP. There is no further need to discuss this as that info page contains all the info you need. Good Luck
