Been looking @ HD prices -- Samsung seems alittle lower than the others (WD, IBM). I'm not considering Quantum -- that's why I'm needing a drive. Anyone w/experience? I'm sure WD and IBM are solid drives.

B, I have used Samsung hd's in many of my "budget" builds with great success. While they are not the fastest drives nor the most popular on the market they have been very stable and reliable for me. Infact there is a 10 gig samsung drive in my wife's system and a 8.4 gig Samsung drive in my Daughters machine. Both were used as their primary drives for almost a year before they were moved to be used as storage drives when I moved them up to 20+ gig 7200rpm Maxtor drives recently.

Thx, Snow.

Does anyone know what 3.5LP, 9.5LP, etc., mean in hard drive descriptions? I reckon it has to do w/size, but no HD I know of is 9.5 inches in width!

My experience with a Samsung 4 gig hd was bad. It was slow, noisy had bad sectors and had to be changed.

Wanted to push to top since my "edit" question might have gone unnoticed.

Does anyone know what 3.5LP, 9.5LP, etc., under "form" mean in hard drive descriptions? I reckon it has to do w/size, but no HD I know of is 9.5 inches in width!

I have installed 4 Samsung drives: 2 have failed, all are slow. I have been impressed with the 1 Quantum Fireball UATA66 7200 that I installed - but I have not seen enough of them to recommend one wholeheartedly. On the other hand - I hate Western Digi-fail with a passion.
