Just built new system 4 weeks ago, I have a IBM Deskstar GXP75 30GB Drive. Last night I was loading up Norton Utilites and when it went to reboot, I heard a loud series of scretching noises, and a "Primary Master Hard Disk Fail Error" at load-up. Now Bios can not detect. Any ideas on what could of happened internally, the **** thing was GREAT up to this point. And if anyone knows if this is a ongoing problem with this drive??
Thanks...

Sounds like a case of the heads crashing onto the platter. IBM hard drives have a good rep, of course that is no help to you. it is trashed . rma it.
The screetching sound that you heard are probably the heads making contact on the platters. It sounds like you may have a defective drive. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

Take it out of the case. Smell it. hook it up
so you can feel if it is turning clunking or
whatever. If you can, take it back, if not,
open 'er up and take a peek since it's shot anyway.

RMA the drive to IBM and stay away from Norton/Symantec
