What is better? A system with 128 MB RDRAM and 866 MMX PIII or 256 SDRAM with a 1GHz PIII? I basically want to open lots of stuff and be able to do graphics (ie, print and work with large files)and surf the net at the same time. (Greedy, eh?) The second system is about 150 dollars more. With 256 MB RDRAM, the first system will be about $200 more than the second one. Anyone have any strong opinion?

Well, RDRAM is definitally more time effective, cost is a different issue. Check the recent SysOpt article on this-- SDRAM is the most cost effective, (it will perform well with graphics) solution for the consumer. Big comanies who must process billions of bits of data per minute, mostly in construction, are turning to RDRAM

Doing graphics, photos, video? MORE memory better - period. Fast memory is a plus as is fast CPU but some graphics files are very large and with manipulation and unlimited undo/redo options in some graphic suites it can easily push the system into virtual (disk) memory and slow things down by 1000x.

intel is dumping rambus as quick as
it can get out of its contracts.
stay far away from it - will be
obsolete if you want to upgrade in the
future. also too expensive and possiby
lots of problems.stick with pc133
which can overclock to 150mhz and is
a proven stable tech.
