I'm using a built-in SIS 530 VGA with 8 MB of shared memory running on WIN XP. Everything is working fine as it should be except when watching videos the screen seems to be too dark, though brightness settings of the computer monitor are at a max.
1. Is there a way to adjust the brightness/contrast of this VGA
card? Do I need to download a tweaked driver for WIN XP? Where can I get one?
2. Is there any software available to adjust monitor settings (brightness, contrast, etc) regardless of the VGA card?
Any help regarding my problem is very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Edgar ;)

This is usually a sign of a faulty or aging monitor. However , if in fact its only during video playback its probably due to lack of video performance. I've used E-Color's 3Deep enhancement software and it works pretty good with the GeForce2MX , I dont know if it will for the Sis530 . Hope the link helps.:)

Thanks I've downloaded it from the link and tried 3Deep Color Enhancement Software, but result isn't what I expected. You're right though that it's for an aging monitor I've been using this for the last 6 years.
Is there a software that supports manual adjustment of gamma and brightness regardless of VGA card?

I am guessing here. Lemme see SIS 530. You are probably using either a AMD K6 2 450 or a Celeron 433 or below these speeds. You are using integrated video which is causing your system's CPU to work over time. The poor little thing cant pump out all those instructions in the time needed to render the video performance you seek. Get a video card and pray you have a AGP slot.
On the other hand you might need a new monitor, but I doubt it. Try upping the refresh rate: Go to display properties / settings / advanced / adapter - set refresh rate to highest or optimal setting. Hope it helps!!

Yes, I'm using a K6 500 Mhz Processor with 192 MB RAM. Watching videos on disc really doesn't need that processing power. It's not like the screen's freezing and tiling but the screen's too dark. I've tried using a Savage4 (32MB) before and the results are the same except when you'll manually adjust gamma, brightness and contrast from the display properties.
It probably has to do something either with the monitor or the vga card driver. Although I'm more bent on believing that it's with the aging monitor. But still it's working and I don't intend to replace it I just need to boost its brightness/gamma settings.
For anyone experiencing the same problem I suggest that you download Powerstrip 3.01 from this link below, it's shareware but it could do the trick.
www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm
Here's a description of what it does.
"PowerStrip is a display control and desktop enhancement utility for Windows, specially designed and optimized for use with your graphics accelerator or monitor. You should think of the PowerStrip as a kind of supplementary "device driver" which works in conjunction with your accelerator's display driver, and allows you to get the most from your monitor. "
Thanks,
Edgar
