I"ve been using W98 backup prog to another drive for quite some time. And even though I would quite all running programs, backup would always report errors (usually IE related files).
After doing a fresh winME install, I was surprised Microsoft dropped the backup program, or at least I couldn't find it(I'll be mad if someone says it's there)
So I purchased the Seagate ( now Veritas) Backup Exec Desktop program and just ran it. It reported "no errors" at the end. I have seen them so many times running virtually the same program with windows I almost don't believe it. Anyone else use Veritas backup ???

Bag,
The Veritas software is a more robust software compared to the "stripped" down version that was built into the Win9x Os's The reason you probably didnt get the same errors that you got use to seeing (ie.dat ect) is how the veritas FULL version software handles "open" files. In the Enterprise level backup software we pay BIGmoney to have backup solutions that allow us to do "hot/open file" backups due to the time constraints that we have to deal with(servers can not be shutdown/users locked out to perform backups). I'm sorry I'm unable to give you a definite answer as I dont use the veritas software but that's what it sounds like to me.

Mntsnow,
Thanx for the response. I was hoping it just meant a better backup. For what it cost ($91 with shipping)I hoped it would be better. Seemed to work well and reloading after a fresh install went well.

hey bagmanx
I have Veritas 4.5 and love it,I have the option of backing up to file, tape or cd-rw. I use the tape for extra security as I have a complete backup to a seperate hd partition and the cd-rw for immediate critical archiving.

I just bought a CDRW (Acer) Veritas did find it as a backup medium. I did a test backup which was 1.2 gig. Will the backup span CD's ??? It seemed to stall at that point, but it was probably operator error. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
