My computer is not working right...Please help!!!

Please help!!! I can not use anything in my control panel at all. it has not been workingfor months. I can click on things in there and it just does not work. I do not have a reboot dsk and I do not know what to do. Also for some strange reason my cdrom stopped working. I was running a game one night and it was working fine. I shut down my computer and since then it has not worked at all. When I click on it it say no disk please retry... Please help....

Need lots more info:

• Built the system yourself, or store bought?

• Vendor/manufacturer and model? (Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, etc.)

• Operating system? Version? Pre- or self-installed?

• Any new hardware or software installed recently?

• Do you have a full or upgrade version Windows CD, or a restore CD?

• Exact wording of the error message?

• Was the game on CD, installed on hard drive, or were you playing online?

• Disregarding the other problems, does Windows itself start up and shut down OK?

reboot to safe mode, (press f8 when rebooting)
then select ..... "command prompt"

type in...... cd(space)windows (enter)

then you should have a "windows" prompt.

Type in ..... scanreg/restore (enter)

select a date that you KNOW your computer was working fine, and enter
