I know the best heatsinks are made of copper, but I am sure there is a more expensive metal that conducts heat much better. Are you thinking about making one yourself or just trying to pick one?

Copper is the best. Use it if you can.

A search may be in order, I think the copper/aluminum deal has been discussed to GREAT length before...

Missing the point

The only problem is, Copper is a really good conductor, but it is NOT a very good dissipation metal.

The best is a Copper base with Aluminum fins.

If the whole heatsink is copper, then it would have to be HUGE to dissipate the heat....

Thx for all informations.
I ask this question because i found that most cooler material in my near by local store(i live in HongKong) are most aluminium and it divided in to several types:
1)black, hard
2)green, not very hard
3)silver in colour, soft
and there are some other materials that i think were not aluminium.
4)shiny silver(i think its silver)
Also, its hard to find a cooler with copper, really rare in my place.....
Could u state what the matel stand for each point and give some suggestions?since i dont know much about them.

visit www.plycon.com (http://www.plycon.com) , their copper Hedgehog cooler is supposedly the best on the market for socket A platforms. I know they're imported from china, I think maybe Singapore, it says on the website. But if you want a really bada$$ cooler, that's the one.

Has anyone ever tried GOLD as a heatsink?
Yeah it may Be expensive as Hell but if you want the best your gonna have to pay!

Id love to see reviews of a GOLD heatsink to find out if it would be any good at all.

This could be very interesting!

If I remember my periodic table of elements correctly and associated chats,,

Copper conducts heat at the rate of 262 BTU/INCH/MIN

Silver= 285 BTU/IN/MIN (by memory http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif)

Gold is a better conductor of electricity (as I remember from my 1909 chemistry)
Silver is the best conductor of thermal energy.

Some worn out silver dollars or "silver rounds" are about $6 ea.

A little hammering on a vise will thin them down to a workable thickness..
