Hi

I have a rather frustraing problem with my HDD (FUJITSU MPG3204AT E)

It all started when I had a prob with a "dismounted" partition. ( I was dual booting Win ME and Win XP Pro).

I booted into Win ME and used Partition Magic to delete the partition that Win XP was on, as I decided that I would use Win XP all the time, by installing over Win ME.

This is where the problems get worse.

I deleted the extended partition fine, resized the primary partition fine and formatted it fine.

I went to install Win XP and it kept failing, unable to write setup files or some such message.

I put another HDD that I had, and installed WIn ME on it, and started to run some tests on the original Drive. Scan Disk with a through test went ok, no errors, so I downloaded a diagnosis tool from fujitsu, it passed all their tests. So I went into Partition Magic and checked for errors, no errors, I then went into FDISK and found that the drive was not accessible. I tried formatting the partition, and it said write at the end "Unable to write File Allocation Table"

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance

Further to my ealier post:

I have just tried FDISK once again, the drive was found, so I deleted all the partitions on the HDD, then created one Primary Partition as I will be using this HDD only. I formatted the partition with no problem.

I booted back into Win ME, and went into My Computer, and found that I now have (apparently) 2 identical HDD's with partitions that were on the original one, which I thought I had deleted. All the information that was on the HDD prior to deleting the partition and formatting was still there.

Anybody have any ideas?

PS. All tests such as scandisk, "Check for Errors" in Partition Magic, the Diagnosis tool from Fujitsu AND Norton Disk Doctor still report no errors OR bad clusters.

PPS. If this disk is conected when I boot up, nine times out of 10 I have to restart the computer beofre I can do anything, as I get a "Bkue Screen of Death" saying the system is busy or unstable. After rebooting there is no problem
