I have ordered a Diamond Mx300 Monster Sound card. Will it work if i just plug the soundcard output into the receiver's auxilary input and turn on the receiver? I am basically asking will i get 3d sound on the above setup. This is really the only option because I don't have computer speakers, I have speakers which plug into the receiver.
Thnx

I've done the same thing with my old JVC and it works great! I can't believe more people don't do this. There may also be more creative applications available to you as well. What I have done is route the reciever so that the tape monitor function on the reciever picks up output from the sound card and the record output from the reciever is input to the sound card. The result is that I can listen to the radio or the phonograph and the computer on the reciever at the same time. However, I am still trying to figure out what combinations of volumes work and how to keep them.

If you are not playing games or using sound a lot, a stereo reciever is a bit of overkill just to hear the bootup and exit files. But when you are playing games, crank it up. You'll never get that kind of performance from those wimpy desktop amps. All the sound extras from the card are intact and you get the audio controls on your reciever.

Here's a thought. If your card has a two speaker output, use two old recievers to amp the signals. There may be more sophisticated solutions with more modern stereo amplifiers, but there are so many old amps out there going cheap, why bother?

By the way, anyone who remembers my Asound card problems should know that the problems vanished when I lined it out to my JVC.
