I've tried several and my results vary too. There have been several posted in SysOPt before.
However, general traffic on the net, at the server you access, and on your own isp are part of this.
I've watched the same download thru Napster vary from 50 kb down to 2 or less and back up again. Heck, I've seen it go to 0 and come back up on Napster.

I'd say don't worry about it unless it's consistently slow.

I see you finally updated it Out. I use the same thing to get an average.

I wasn't going to do this but I figured I just run it to see how my speed is today while downloading some MP3's.

This is bits.

And this is bytes.

That's nice looking and all...but until I see a graph of yours with a constant downstream for the width of the graph, I simply have no logical choice but to doubt your marks.

Those spikes in your graph are certainly not indicitive of just "downloading some mp3s".

Now I'm not saying I don't believe you. I'm just saying I don't......well.....ok....I am saying I don't believe you. So come'on, cough up a "real" graph. (Keep in mind I'm writing this with a friendly, tounge-in-cheek attitude...so don't hit me!) http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

I think my graph is broken. If I could ever figure out how to fix it I will. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

I think the reason for the spikes is because I downloaded some Dixie Chicks junk for my wife, http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/redface.gif the modem could only take that stuff in spurts. I can't wait to see how the burner is going to act.

Go here: http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/nsl.htm

and get Netstat Live. It'll give you constant feedback regarding the speed of your connection.

Example of mine on a decent night:

Contacted AT&T about my download speed, 6kbytes/sec. They state the download speed is a max of 1.5Mbits/sec or 187.5Kbytes/sec, I am nowhere close to this.
Technicains are supposed to come over Friday morning and see what the problem is.

Will post the results later.

Check out the tweaks at www.speedguide.net (http://www.speedguide.net) They helped me.

Also go to www.dslreports.com/tweaks (http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks) and run the test to see if your system is optimized for the cable modem. Mine comes back with a "HEALTHY SETUP".
