Can a cable modem plug right into a network hub? I'm new to them; I figure I just need some Internet Sharing software package to do the trick. Is that all there would be to it?
Also, if I get internet sharing software, will multiple computers be able to use the internet connection simultaneously?

Actually, what you would have to do is have 2 NIC's on the computer with the cable modem connection. (1) For the cable modem and (1) to connect to the other computer that will be sharing the Internet connection. You will also need to get (1) NIC for the computer that will be sharing the Internet connection. That will be a total of 3 NIC's. A hub will not be neccessary if you aren't going to have more than 2 systems on the network. Just connecting the PC's via the cable modem box through the hub isn't going to work either, because you cannot share IP's. I'm using a program called Sygate V4.0 for Internet sharing on 3 of my PC's at home.
I've been using this program for my 3 systems at home and it works great. The PC that has the cable modem connection acts as the Internet server and the other systems act as the clients. When you do the software install, you will be asked to enter the serial number for Internet Server installation only, the clients can just be installed without entering any serail number.
Here is the link for the Internet sharing sofware:

If are using three or more computers, another proxy that works good and is free is from AnalogX http://www.analogx.com It's a decent little program...free but is limited! It will let you do most things, but special programs like Napster will only work on the system with the modem. It's also easy to set up with good instructions. I've been using it for about two months and like it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
