I have DSL so can't fax via that (afaik), and don't want to hassle switching to modem, disconnecting/reconnecting - though I could and might, it would just be easier and less time-consuming not to have to, if I can get away with it. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Note: I'm using RASPPPoE on a WinPoET connection via an iVasion PoET Adapter. The "type" is listed as dial-up.
Any info or other suggestions are welcome - and thanks!
Edited info.

Ahh... ok, nevermind. I'll just do it the hard way (isn't really hard, I'm just lazy <g> )
I just downloaded <A HREF="http://www.fax2000.com/Default.htm" TARGET=_blank>
Fax2000</A> , plugged in my modem and switched connections.
Wish I didn't have to disconnect DSL though.

Hi qball http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
That sounds like a good idea. W2K, so another profile works.
As to the DSL liking the splitter, I don't know. I'll have to piggy-back a splitter on top of a splitter, but I can try and see if it works.
Thanks for your suggestion. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I'll post back with my results.
Oh, afaik = as far as I know http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

(afaik) = blah, blah, blah, I know?????
Not sure what OS your running, but why can't you make two profiles. One for DSL and one for modem. Set up your fax service to use the modem. Then you pick up one of those $3 phone jack splitters and your good to go (will DSL like this???).
DSL is always on, use the modem when you want to fax.
This post completed with very little working DSL knowledge....

As far as I know!
Seems so easy once you know 'em. I always liked smog (sweet mother of god!), but nobody understands...
Iffin your using a splitter already, another shouldn't hurt. J'ever think about another phone jack? I have seen multiple splitters, so you can lose the piggy backs.

Hi qball http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
In these parts, smog has a slightly different meaning.. but your unabbreviated version is often exclaimed while trying to breathe. -lol
Update! I did find a work-around. The DSL split didn't work, so I tried the splitter - with the faxmodem connection - on my regular telephone line.
Result is, I am staying connected to DSL and can fax out at the same time. Of course, this ties up my regular phone line, but that's nbd (no big deal <g> ). And, I can do this without switching profiles http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
This works for me! Thanks alot, qball! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif If you hadn't suggested what you did, I probably wouldn't have thought of it.

Your welcome?, I guess.
Wasn't thinking when I thought profile as fax no need TCP/IP. But brainstorming ain't about the money!
Question, you have a dedicated DSL line???, or a defunct second POTS (plain ole telephone service http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif) line? I figured the DSL was configured to you phone line, thus splitter idea. You stated a splitter existed already on DSL line. None of my business, but why splitter?
I ask as I will be getting DSL and I have two active (modem, phone).
I noticed the iframe with the old post is gone, more efficient now, but I miss the ability to scroll the old post to a point and be able to type a response, scroll, type, scroll, laugh, scroll, cry... I'm guessing you noticed that too...
code is supposed to be like pre, no formatting. was hoping for a simple emoticon and then the technology goes haywire, I get flustered, the phone rings, getting up, I knock squishee over into keyboard and stack of freshly printed contracts, the doorbell rings, trying to save rest of squishee, weighted kb falls off desk, phone rings again followed by doorbell, kb somehow is wrapped around my ankle without my permission, take step.....

LOL! ahhh... what's a squishee?
As for my DSL setup, I'm not really sure how it works. <Edit out erroneous information>
There's a box attached to the wall at the phone jack line-in. There used to be one jack, now there are two: one jack for the DSL, the other for the telephone. So, I assume the incoming phone line is split - part for DSL, part for phone, on separate signals?
My fax line just piggy-backed onto the phone jack (a no-brainer, really... once I thought about it lol)
Even tho I have DSL, I still have an active dial-up (same account) with Earthlink (XX free hours) and use my installed USR 56k faxmodem for dial-up on the very rare occasion when DSL goes down.
Now what is this about not being able to scroll to see the entire thread while in the reply page? I can, and I can edit my post... email me if you have further problems with that, ok?
I hope you didn't hurt yourself over there http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

A squishee is the Simpson's (tv show, not people I know) term for a slurpee (frozen carbonated beverage)
hey this looks like a proprietary thread, I hope THEY don't catch us...
anyway, I'm typing in a HTML multiline edit thingy (as a mod/admin perhaps you have different access, nevermind), below are the submit, clear, spell check buttons. below is text, below is table with title (bgcolor=yellar) TOPIC REVIEW. Ensuing rows have the previous posts. Following me?
OK, now the tough part. Before, the TOPIC REVIEW was an iframe wif the original topic url. The iframe had a scroll bar. You could scroll through the thread you were responding to and STILL be typing your/my reply.
That is gone now and replaced with an HTML table, which I can scroll through in the browser, yet as soon as I scroll down, the input (my reply), scrolls off the top of the browser.
That's what I mean, I think, kinda sorta...
The old functionality is replaced with 2 browser windows, one for the reply, the other with the thread responses, no biggie.
Ok, DSL. You used to have a phone jack. When THEY (different 'THEY', or we are SOL) installed DSL, they took off old phone jack cover and replaced with a new cover with two jacks, right? I'm ignoring the 'box', as it is a firewall/network thing (if wrong smack me).
What that means is the same core phone line is used for both DSL and POTS. POTS is 'old tech' at a low frequency. DSL is 'new tech' at a high frequency. These two signals coexist because of that difference.
An example;
qball (caucasian male)
dog (generic dog, free iffin you can catch one)
You and a dog whistle (this is not sexual, btw).
DSL = blow dog whistle + dog respond (qball licking, nevermind)
Air is the twisted copper phone line and your voice is a modem, the dog whistle is DSL. Same phone line, different frequency.
THIS EXAMPLE IS NULL AND VOID IFFIN YOU OWN A DOG NAMED albequerge.

Ahh, check <mark> to squishee. Can you tell I don't see much TV?
Yes, this is true: the reply page with no iframe is replaced
<q>...with an HTML table, which I can scroll through in the browser, yet as soon as I scroll down, the input (my reply), scrolls off the top of the browser.</q>
It's another of the bugs that have been plaguing the forums of late. I also have the problem. We have APBs out on the bugs and we expect their apprehension soon.

Yes, the above is correct and we are not SOL; perhaps I used the wrong terminology (signals vs. frequencies) but that's *exactly* what I meant http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Your quite creative dog/whistle/caucasian male analogy-example does explain well; albeit while causing some distraction, it shall give me further food for thought.
As the "dog named alberquerque" = False, then the above must be true.
No? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

not meaning to jump in but the question about the deadicated dsl ...it depends on your service most adsl Analog, digital, subscriber.line runs on the same pair eg.same phone line as your voice but some companies such as covad run a second pair eg.diffrent line to your home anyways just my thoughts btw thanks socalgal for the link to RAID info.

Hi Big[H]Drive - anyone is free to jump into a thread. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Hmmm.. well, I'm not sure. I suppose I'll call ELN tomorrow to satisfy that dedicated DSL question. Thanks for stating there's a difference.
I use Earthlink/PacBell, if that's a clue. The answer may also be at www.dslreports.com (http://www.dslreports.com) , so I'll check that out as well.
You're most welcome for the RAID link - PC Guide is a great site, IMO. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Another option.... not sure how much you fax though... http://www.netmoves.com/
Our company uses this software, it's not too bad really, we don't use it for the broadcast faxes anymore (woohoo) but it will allow you to attach documents to your faxes and the quality is about the same as a fax machine http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

My bad. :-( My DSL line is not dedicated (like I said above). It runs in on the same line as my voice.
Vass, since I can use my faxmodem, I'll be using the soft that came with it. Appreciate your suggestion though, thanks http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

looks like someone got UBB and HTML mixed up.
<b></b>...... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif Do the shortcuts work?
quote er.... NO!
I guess it's a kinda funny example, long as you get the idea, works for me.
'THEY' is a stupid joke about Big Brother, sorry about the confusion and obvious lack of humor.
Glad someone mentioned online faxing, as I had thought to mention. Considering how much one faxes, this might be a deal, as you save on the phone call.
Until next time....
