Since RAM prices appears to have dropped, I'm looking to purchase another RAM upgrade. I'm currently running computers that have PC-100 ram in them, but noticed that PC-133 ram is now being sold at almost the same price. As I am expecting to upgrade my motherboards to AMD Thunderbird boards sometime in the future, I want to get ram that will work for my computers NOW as wells as the Thunderbird motherboards in the future.

My current computers can support (or take advantage of) PC-100 ram.

My questions are:
1) Would it be possible to put PC-133 ram in these PC-100 systems?

2) Does PC-133 Ram work with Thunderboard boards?

3) Any other recommendations on what type of RAM I should get, or any special consideration I should make before purchasing ram?

Thanks.

If you want a Thunderbird board go for the ASUS A7V, and while you´re at it - buy PC133 VCM RAM, it´s faster than standard PC133 RAM especially when it comes to 3D gaming.

Does the PC133 VCM RAM work in older boards too (IE, my PC-100 motherboard)?

Hello, to answer your questions:

1) Yes, so long as the RAM is rated at the same speed or faster than the FSB, it will work.

2) Yes, PC-133 RAM works on all Thunderbird boards.

3) When you buy RAM, make sure it is CAS2 (Cas Latency 2). It is a huge performance difference. Also, if you can afford it, get name brands.
