Okay, iam going to build a gaming server that is only on to server games. but..i don;t know what is more important in a game server that does nothing but sit there and serve. I have built gaming computers befire and iam very pleased. I need advice on what should i concentrate on when building my gaming server, the cpu, ram or HD. Help.

how about you consider your connection? :(
next, memory then cpu then hard drive
i tried building a starcraft:broodwar//counterstrike server using an adsl connection which was stable but lagged up a lot.. i tried creating one on cable and it worked pretty well
the only problem is that when you create a private server, you can't really hold that many people otherwise it will get congested
here is what i ran on my old server:
(4) 366mhz amd-k6
(2) 512mb sdram pc133
(1) 40gb hdd 7200rpm

For a decent dedicated(?) server, you should only need some basic parts. Look around at non-chain computer stores and see if you can't find what is usually called a "decision maker" motherboard, or a mobo that has everything onboard; sound, video, modem and network. Look for something that runs an Athlon Thunderbird 1 GHz @200 MHz FSB and supports 256 MB of PC-133 RAM. These motherboards usually have older non-cutting edge components such as a TNT2 video chipset, a basic audio controller, standard 10/100 network interface and 56K modem (through propriatary risers, such as the 7 pin USB headers on most new motherboards). Most also feature at least a dual channel ATA-66 controller, if not ATA-100. They are mostly of micro-ATX form factor as well, but cost about as much as a high preformance motherboard would on its own. Its simply not very upgradeable (AGP graphics but no AGP on the motherboard) and you won't be able to say overclock, but since you're just game serving, its not big deal.
