I know it's not the newest game in the world, but I just finished Max Payne, and I can honestly say it is by far and away the best produced game I have ever played.

It plays like a movie, and does a good job of it too. something game developers have been trying to do for a very long time.

i found myself unconsciously tilting my head and leaning over to look round corner sometimes. I bet i looked a proper idiot.

making you more vunerable to enemy fire and then doing the bullet time thing so you can still have the edge over your enemies made the game so much better than just having body armour and being able to be shot 20 times without getting killed. there are few things in the gaming world that can live up to a slow motion sideways leap through a door with twin Ingram machine guns and cutting 3 or 4 bad guys to shreds before they even have time to turn and shoot. get the timing wrong though and some poor old computer generated cleaning lady will be scraping your blood off the walls for hours.:D

all the cut scenes unfolding the story like a comic as you go only added to the suspense.

a great game 5 Stars.

wow this reminds me of the times when doom was around, some people were so into that game (during their work hours) that they used to look behind their monitors in order to see whats around the corner, hahahal :D :D

lol thats how i felt everytime i took a break from playing -- everywhere i went i turned and looked around each corner ready to attack anything that would pop out

I'm getting it for Christmas and plan on playing it this winter. The demo convinced me it was the next best thing since Half Life. The only real con I heard about in the reviews was the fact that it was too short, ~12 hours playing time :( . I picked up Red Faction to mess around with in the mean time.

One of the things I liked about it that I didn't mention before was how tight the coding must have been. I'm no expert but from start to finish it didn't crash once even though most of the time i would be running morpheus in the background.

framerate was also very good in comparison with a lot of other 3d games. I have a 32MB ATI AIW128 and Max Payne is running in 800x600 32bit nice and smoothly.

i just started playing it on the higher difficulty setting that was unlocked when i finished it the first time round. for a little while i thought i was getting another secret chapter or something as a little prize for finishing (would have been nice, game developers take note), but alas not.

it's definately a lot harder now though. I have to duck a lot more and sneak around before i jump out on people. the old slo mo jump round the corner and take out 5 guys thing doesn't work any more, they cut you to pieces. hiding behind stuff and popping up to pick them off one at a time works a lot better now.

Well, maybe that was the reason why it took Remedy guys 5 years to release the game ;)

quite likely but IMHO i'd rather wait 5 years for a game of that quality than 6 months for 10 games that crash every 30 minutes, take an age to load and still run slow on even the highest spec. machines because the code is all over the place.

like i said IMHO:D

Max Payne had a great story line along with great graphics, but the gameplay did get a little old after a while... too repetative, but still a fun game... hope to see a sequal sometime

it would have been great if they could have done a multiplayer add-on, but i guess it's just not possible with the bullet time thing. never mind. roll on Max Payne 2
