I have one stick of 128MB PC133 Mushkin Rev.2 CAS2 RAM, and KT7-RAID mobo, my friend is convincing me that I need TWO sticks, or the computer won't boot, to prove that he is wrong (hopefully) I've decided to ask sysopt. He will be checking the replies for this topic today. tell us what you think

Need two RAM sticks or the system won't boot??? Where did he get this idea? AFAIK, that is BS.

Your friends thinking of SIMMs, where its not recognized unless you install them in pairs. DIMMS only need to be installed singular..ly.

Here goes a real good question to ask him. What is the third DIMM slot for if you can only install them in pairs! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Or you can steal one of the sticks of his ram and he'll never know that they're missing! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

One exception though...
For 840 Chipset based motherboards (like my exceptional PIIIDME), the memory controller enables dual memory channels to interleave the memory banks and increase memory performance.
Therefore, the memory modules must be installed in pairs (two memory modules at a time).
