I had a friend tell me what i needed to do to install a new OS, and I just wanted to make sure everything is correct. Here is the list of things to do he gave me.:

-----------------------------------------------------

1) start your pc with a win 98 boot disk
2) let it boot up to the a:\> prompt.
3) At the prompt type fdisk. This will launch the fdisk utility
4) Answer the first prompt with Y
5) In menu select to delete partition or logical drive
6) Select option 4 to delete a logical drive or non dos partition
7) Confirm the delete
8) Get back to first screen
9) Select to create a partition (*option 1)
10) Select to create a primary dos partition
11) Answer prompt with y to make the whole disk one partition
12) Esc. Out of the fdisk
13) Restart your pc with the boot disk in the floppy drive

Formatting your HD

1) after PC has started with CD support, and is in the a:\> prompt
2) type format c:
3) confirm warning with Y
4) let it format your HD
5) after format is complete, enter the volume label or press enter to not give your hd a label (name of HD)
---------------------------------------------------

Please someone let me know if all of this is correct, cause i really dont want to screw up my comp.... thanks.

sounds good, just mack shur that you have the fdisk program on the boot floppy. If your installing on a fresh out of the box HD you shouldn't have to deleat any partition, just create a new partition. Good luck.

The only thing I would recommend is possible creating 2 partitions, 1 for windows files and the other for programs. Just a suggestions though.

If I did create two partitions.... would that be reversable in the future?

If you did then you'd have to use something like partition magic later on to reassign disk space otherwise you have to start over again. If you have a burner then starting over won't be a big deal since you can save your files and practice setting up a drive again, if not then I wouldn't make another partition unless you want to learn more about computers. Bootdisk.com has tutors to get you thru a setup take a look.
