Hello!
2nd build and need help please!
I got a few problems that are just driving me nuts! I got the lite-on drive LTR 16102B(16x10x40) and I can't get it recognized by my software. I think I'm at a dead end(FORMAT!) The CD-RW is an add on 4 months later.(Best Buy $29.99 after rebates)
Here's my specs;
ECS K7VMA ver 1.0
Duron 750
256 Crucial SDRAM
Geforce2 MX200 64mb w/ TV-out
Blue Orb
Maxtor 15G 7200 Primary Master
Volcano II H/S
Delta DVD 12x Primary Slave
Lite-on 16x10x40 Secondary Master
300w P/S
O/S 98SE
I have NTI CD-Maker ver. 5.0 s/w that came with the drive and I had Adaptec 4.02. I did read in Adaptec after hours that it did not support this drive. It had f/w OSOB, now it is flashed to OSOF. I don't have the audio cable installed. What the hell am I doing wrong?
When I try to do anything in NTI, it says that I have no recordable drives installed! Both of my IDE controllers are there and just fine. It will work as a CD-Rom but that's it. I see a number of these posts, HELP! I am running IE 6, I think I read somewhere that this drive is not compatible with IE6. Anyone heard that? You can't go back to IE 5.5 without formatting......can you?
Thanks

 Jerry: there is an answer to your problem.
When I installed my liteon, it came with Nero, and it worked, but I had to remove Adaptec Direct CD.
I don't like Nero, so I got Roxio Platinum 5, but guess what it won't recognize the drive as well BUT 5.02 the free update will.
Best drive and software I've had for burning.
Hope this helps

I might try that, but is IE6 going to stop me? I think that might be the problem. Any thoughts?

If you get it to work , let me know, or if you need anything...I'll look for an audio cable for you, to bring in to work.

I did figure it out. The patch was 5.0.17 from NTI (Newtech Infosystems). It fixed the incompatibility problem with IE6. The only problem I have now is I only have the option of burning at 2x or 4x. ???????????? Any thoughts? By the way, has anybody ever heard of NTI burning software? The burner was labeled retail as a Digital Research, but the User's Guide says that the Warranty was under I/O Magic, but the drive has a sticker on it that says it's a Lite-On drive and that's what my computer recognizes it as. What the F**K?

I have a Lite-On 12x10x32 which was bought as a Buslink.
The drive is a pretty good one. I don't have a problem using EZ CD Creator 4 or NTI CD Maker with it.
Of course, I'm also using IE 5.5 SP2.
And to get Nero and CD Creator to work in the same system, you have to keep their autostart functions from starting. Those icons in the system tray.
In 98 or 98SE run MSCONFIG, startup tab, uncheck the boxes with the buring software. This will keep them from running in the background and allow you to use either Nero or CD Creator.

I also have a Buslink/Lite-on 12x10x32 burner and have no trouble burning with EZCD-Creator 4.02 in IE6. I did patch up the NTI software to where it would run, now I'm running Roxio 5.0 Platinum and that took care of my problem of only 2x-4x burning. Now I'm up to 16x. Thanks for the msconfig tip! I wouldn't have thought of that right off the bat. My wife thinks that everything should be in the system tray.

I had the same problem with a new system I built last month. the drive was not being found correctly. I went to the Lite-on web page (don't remember url) and downloaded the firmware. If I remember correctly there were several options for the download and they were'nt exactly clear. I did find the correct one and did the firmware upgrade. then the Roxio ez-cdcreator (4.1 and 5.0) could not recognize the drive, I downloaded their patch and it now works very well. Just make sure that it was the proper firmware update before you go farther with this. Those numbers are a pain sometimes. Good Luck

I bought a lite on LTR 16201C (packaged as a CenDyne 16X10X40) which came with Nero 5. I was comfortable with EZ-CD 4 but apparently you have to buy V5 to get it to recognize the lite on drive - but not bad for a cheapo burner!
