In Windows XP, you can format a FAT32 volume up to 32 GB only.

that is what stands in the "help file" for windows xp. why can't I format a disk over 32 gb in the fat32fs ?!? it worked in windows me and 98. what is the disadvantages. i mean that there must be a reasen for this.?
do i have to partition my hd to partitions under 32 gb for it to work ? if i boot up from a win 98 cd and format from there it works

thanks

That is correct. Windows XP cannot create partitions larger than 32GB using FAT32... Windows 2000 is the same way. If you must create a FAT32 partition large that 32GB, you can create one using Windows 98 FDISK and it will be fine.

thanks for the answer NDC! but there must be a reason for t microsoft to not make it possible to format it using the fat32 fs. does anyone know why ?

is it stupid to have disk on 45 gb as ONE partition and fat32 ?

God Bless Microsoft for looking after us so that we don't hurt ourselves. What would we do without their guidance?
