A friend of mine used partition magic to create a new drive extension ( 1.8 gig) on his 3.4 gig drive. He also has a cdrom (e dirve) and cdr (f dirve). Partition magic created the new drive (d) but deleted the cdrom and the cdr http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif. Now there are conflicts showing in device manager under ide drives. I have never used partition magic before. He cannot get back the cdrom and the cdr, part magic doesnt let him recover the drives. What is the best course of remedy he should take to get bakc the lost drives??
Help!

Assuming you use Win95/98, boot into Safe Mode and delete all references to CDROMs, then restart. Windows should then re-detect both those drives and assign them new drive letters.
Partition Magic did what you asked it to do -created a new partition on your C: drive, which automatically became D:, as fixed IDE drive letters always take precedence over removable IDE drive letters (i.e., CDROMs, CDRs, Zip Drives, etc.). Since your CDROMs were D: and E: before, they will probably be bumped to E: and F: when they are re-detected.
Let us know if you need more help, and by the way, PLEASE don't post multiple messages for the same problem. If you don't get any suggestions within a reasonable amount of time, post back on the original thread to bump it back up to the top of the Forum list.
