A couple things I would recommend:

A better HSF. The coolmaster is almost identical to the stock one. For a little more you could get a fop32.

Get Brand name ram. Sure, some generic ram is good stuff...but why take the risk if stability, and thus the enjoyment of the system is at stake?

Make sure you get the SBLive X-gamer 5.1. Better games bundle (UT, Deus Ex, Theif 2, and MDK2 vs. NFS4: HS, Theif 1, Decent 3.

Also, only get a 64mb vid card if you're planning on holding on to it for a loooong time. Otherwise it will just be a waste of money for a couple FPS in high rez, complex situations.

Hmmmm....... if ur shelling out that much then I think it would be better to hav 256mb of ram! Buy kingston so that you get lifetime warranty! Get a better sound card! And if you can afford it, go crazy and buy a voodoo5 6000

A better sound card?? That sound card is perfectly fine! =) I wouldnt suggest you go with a V5 6000 or a GF2 Ultra. Way too expensive. BUT-for 80 dollars more...you can get the GF2 Pro (if overclocked, is very close to Ultra performance)...I think its worth it...

BTW- Not sure on the GF2 Pro's release...soon though, this month is likely.

The soundcard is fine. If you don't care about the software bundle, get the regular SB Live.

Voogru where did you find a Cpu 1000mhz for $289?

I'm still waiting for prices to drop, when the 1.3Gig comes out. Have a hard time finding a 1Gig for under $450.
I'm still looking at rebuilding to a faster comp. I've still got this old slow Cel 400.

Watch out for high shipping and handling charges at comp-u-plus. I have always done better elsewhere.

hey www.monarchcomputer.com (http://www.monarchcomputer.com) is great online store I have recently ordered from them, and have no complaints, their prices for CPU are awesome $146 for T-bird 800MHz, but beware if you have any glitches with you CC(different shipping address, etc..) do not expect your item to come

P.S. And if you order in a bundle you save hell lot of on shipping

Instead of the 72x CD-ROM, I suggest you buy a CD-RW drive. Today's CD-RWs give a decent read performance of 32x and 32x is all you really need. You can also save large files on a CD-RW. Great when you have to reformat your hard drive. A CD-RW saved me days of downloads after I reformated my hard drive.

Why do you need that 3com network card? I got a linksys for $15-$10 rebate = $5. I don't know if the rebate is still around, but $15 is better than $50. Are you getting the 3com because it has better performance or more features?

Hmm not sure about the IBM HD's but my WD HD came with the ATA66 cables that I needed. As did my mobo (Abit BE6-II).
The mobo SHOULD come with IDE cables as well for the CDROM and floppies..
I would hope so at least!!
