Hi,

I'm really familiar with building computers but, i'm really thinging about getting a dell or something for my father to use. I have a k7s5a with a 1.4 but i feel it's unreliable for his use. He needs a computer reliable for bussiness and his 1gz tyran board and athlon chip sucks. His computer absolutely cannot crash if something important such as online bidding and etc. Complex 3d drawings is also used so processing speed and fast ram is also necessary. Would you suggest advising to get a dell or some other company. It's also nice to have a program package since it's one per computer.

I'm not there 24/7 so suggestions are welcomed. Or can someone give me a combo which is compatable with most hardware and programs. I'll probably give him my geforce 2 and sblive when i upgrade but what....

1. Board
2. Chip
3. crucial ram "of course"
4. or buy dell or some other prepackage company so when something goes wrong he can call for help?

Reliable 24/7 using win2k. Fire wall recommendations? or router/firewall is adequate?

thanks for your time,

PIETRO

I don't have any preference towards either company, but if I wanted reliability and compatiablity I would go Intel. If I were building it I would go with:

MSI SIS 645 Ultra333 (MS-6547) -- $124
INTEL PENTIUM 4 1.7GHz 400MHz FSB SOCKET 478 -- $208
CRUCIAL MICRON 256MB 32x64 PC 2100 DDR RAM -- $53

Prices are from newegg.com

If you were to go with Dell you would also get a great deal because you also have tech support...that isn't you! :D

The reason I would go with intel is cause they have a great reputation, especially in business applications. AMD can kick intel's **** in gaming and floating point, but intel comes out on top alot with business apps. Good Luck!!!

hey

As far as the chip itself...you may want to look into a tuatalin p3 or an early P4. The tuatlin from what i have heard, is a real stable chip. And as PIETRO said, although amd will kick intels **** in floating point and games...But for a stable business system Intel is the leader
