Have you partitioned the drive? If you go to the command prompt, type FDISK and then press 5 to change the physical drive. Once you have chosen the second drive press 4 to display the partition information.
What does this show?

Set the new drive up as a Primary Slave or Secondary Master or Secondary Slave.
Boot to the boot disk. Go to fdisk, option 5 should be there with both hard drives attached correctly.

my hdd is set up as primary slave. thats wot i see in the bios, but i still haven't got an option 5 in fdisk. this is probably cos windows still dont recognise my new hdd.

Fdisk is run in Dos not windows.
To run fdisk you have to boot to Dos mode with a boot floppy.
Are the jumpers on the drives set correctly? One Master, one Slave?
Another question, when you fdisked the new drive as master did you make it a primary partition?

That could be your problem then. Run fdisk on the new drive again, remove the primary partition. You don't need a primary partition if the New drive is gonna be a slave.
Set up the old drive as Primary Master, New drive as Primary Slave, run fdisk. Set the new drive as an extended drive then logical.

the problem was in bios, although the hdd was recognised, i didnt check the second menu level, and the detection was set to none rather than auto. thanks for your help in sorting it out tho people.
