I am looking for information on converting IDE drives to SCSI. I have found companies that make small conversion cards that convert IDE to SCSI but was hoping someone had done this before and had some recommendations.

I've never really heard of a card that upgrades IDE to SCSI...different pin configurations (EIDE uses 40 pin, SCSI uses either 150 or 165, depending on either wide SCSI or ultrawide SCSI)Y ou could get an ATA-33 controller card though. Older EIDE drives can run at ATA-33 with the 80-conductor ribbon cables. How long ago did you get your drive? If it was within the last year its probably an ATA-100, and if you got it in 98 to 2000 its probably an ATA-66. You could plug it into a ATA-100 controller (backwards compatible) but if its only a 33 you could get a 33 controller much cheaper.

These thingies do exist - however, doing this doesn't make the drive a SCSI drive. It'll still behave like an IDE drive, blocking the entire bus it's on while completing a request, unable to take multiple requests, and a few more detail features that are the reason why SCSI is more efficient.
In other words, these adapters don't turn your IDE drive into a SCSI drive, it's more like they turn your SCSI bus into IDE, feature wise.
Avoid.
For exactly that reason, avoid Yamaha's "SCSI" CDRWs 2200 and 3200 - they're IDE drives with adapters.

I know the difference between ATA33 -- 66 - 100. The reason I am asking this is I am setting up my new pc and on my old one I had 2 spare hd's for storage on a raid 0. But my new pc has no onboard raid and my pci slots will be maxed but already have a scsi backup drive. I know the using some of the adapters just makes ide work on a scsi cable basically. But all my IDE's are used up.
I was looking for recommendations on what adapters people my have used to do this before.
If it was up to me I would just buy either some scsi cd-rom's to replace my ide ones or replace my ide hd's with scsi one but $chool(Money) doesn't allow that.
