I just bought Norton 2002 standard version. It seems that Norton is using the program as a marketing platform to sell you support services for problems that used to be corrected by the CD. I was surprised to find that some usefull tools are missing. Norton Zip Rescue for one - it allowed me to use one floppy disk and one Zip disk to create rescue files. Now they want you to use up to seven floppies to create a rescue set. I have seen a lot of praise for the GoBack application (offered as "a similar application" - but I just want something small and simple. The Connection Doctor is also gone. In any case - no matter what I do, I cant get WipeInfo to work, it keeps saying "Restarting due to disk write" even with just Explorer and Systray running. It is not installed in the typical setup. Would starting in safe mode (with a boot floppy to enable CD-ROM support) make it work?

The disk writes that are interrupting your work can be caused by the screen saver trying to start or anti virus software that is running in the background etc. McAfee AV is a TSR program and must be shut off and the machine re-booted for it to really be off.
