If it's checking for errors, should'nt that decrease the cache speed? So whats the real bennefit here? Nr.2 question; is there a bennefit when you put the hd on IDE1 and the cdrom at IDE2 (single both master), instead of connecting the cdrom as slave next to the hd both on IDE1, saving you an IDE-cable.
Yes, it will slightly affect cpu performance because it does some extra steps to ensure the data is not corrupted. If the data is erroneous it will re-process the data.
For the average OC'r it's a good way to tell if the L2 cache is keeping up! If the computer speeds up noticeably without it on as oppsed to off, it's a sign that the cache can't handle the speed and the latency should be adjusted or the cpu slowed down.
For the proffesional user, it just minimizes on corruption and crashes.
