I have a question about my good old Acer 6206A CD-RW. I can create Audio CDs without any problems but to burn data CDs that can be read in any CDs has always been a problem. I am using Easy CD Creator for this purpose. It seemed to read and write data but then it hangs and never finishes it.

I am using a pentium II, 233MHZ computer and the CD-RW Driver is the slave drive on the secondary IDE. (the master being another CD ROM). I thought it must be operating system and tried the more stable WIN NT but I still have the same problem. It's just the Data CDs.

Any ideas as to what I am missing ??

Thanks a lot for your help/suggestions.

PS: I am using Easy CD Creater - version 3.0.

Where in the burn process does it hang? Is it master or slave? What chipset does your mobo use? Please give us some detailed information and maybe we can help you out :)

Best regards,

First of all, thanks for the response. I am using P-II 233MHZ, as mentioned above. The hard disk is on the primary IDE while my Acer 6206A is the SLAVE on secondary IDE. The master on the secondary IDE is another CDROM.

The only thing I can think of that could be a issue is the fact that I am using 80Min/700MB blank CDs for writing. I dont know if Easy CD Writer 3.0 supports it.

It appears to write the CD ok, but then it never finishes it. It never goes to the next step where it "verfies" the TOC. I dont think it's my computer.

Any idea what's going on ?

Thanks,

First of all, maybe it's a good idea to swap your writer with your cdrom player. I don't think it has anything to do with this problem but generally it's recommended to have your writer as a master on its own channel.
I don't think it's a problem with the burning software. If it doesn't support 80min cds it will write them as 74min cds with no problems. Is it possible to finalize the cd after a restart of your pc? I don't know if you burning software supports it. Maybe you can try this with a rewritable instead of a recordable if you don't want to lose an other disc.
Do you have other burning software installed? Some software may have conflicts with Easy CD. You may also want to try to reinstall windows (if you didn't already do that...). A clean install works great often :) . Let us know if you find something, good luck.
