well i would just want to know if it would be safe to push further a i440ZX motherboard with a limit of 100 Mhz Front side bus, the case is this, I have a AGP card installed, no PCI card installed, currently the AGP installed is a GeForce 2 MX200, has a PC100 and about to be replaced by a PC133, I would like to ask what is the safest zone of overclocking a hard to overclock Pentium 3 KATMAI at 550 Mhz Slot 1, my option is 110 Mhz FSB or 112 FSB?
will the AGP card/slot be damage in long term use with a higher FSB?

I really wouldn't risk it, I'm a newbie to the new technology, but from what i've read in may be a little dangerous in the long run...

Whenever you overclock, there is always arisk that you will shorten the life or your hardware, the cpu is most vulnerable.
Thats why you must provde good cooling measures, plenty of fans themal paste etc. You should try to monitor your mb and cpu temps if you can. My opinion is that if the system runs smoothly with a given overclock and your temps. are within acceptable range , then by the time you damage your hardware, your hardware is going to be so obsolete that you will be due to change it anyhow. I would go for 110 with proper cooling. If you start freezing up, then forget it. The difference in performance between 110 and 112 is negligable, however, the risk for malfunction is much greater.

Hey,
This is my first reply in this forum..I've OC'd both a PII400 and aPIII500 to 112mhz on an ABITBH6 and a Tyan Tiger100. The only limiting factors have been memory and cooling. PC133 memory is a must for anything over 112mhz, I have found. I've had no ill effects from running at 124mhz ( an option on my AbitBH6 board ). I've run the PC at 124 mhz, while burning CDs, playing intense online gaming etc. with no glitching attributable to overclocking. I have wired up 4 HUGE fans to blow directly at mobo-- cool air flows across mobo then travels up and out. I've found that the video card is what really needs the cooling. I guess my next venture(s) will be investigating the possibilities/dangers of overclocked cpu's with overclocked vid card. Also-- how old is your powersupply? You can't get solid benchmarks of any sort with a questionable power supply. My 3+ year old power supply had gone bad, damaging my Abit board and possibly the vid card. The vid card(Geforce2mx) will no longer accept overclocking, and I can't get I/OMagic to replace Video bios.:-( So- I'd say that with proper cooling, you can safely go to 112mhz. If your machine doesn't want to boot at 112 then try 110. If I were to upgrade cpu, I'd probably void the warranty right away by OCing it--if only for the fact that I can!!:-)
