My Current system is a P2-450 running on a Atrend ATC6220 motherboard, the problem is that when i turn the pc on, sometimes it beeps like a police siren constantly and nothing appears on the screen, pressing reset or power off does nothing. I end up turning the switch off at the wall to turn the pc off. I have to do this 2 or 3 times before the PC will boot up normal (then evrythings fine). has anyone heard of a similair case to this, because it sounds like a power problem but i dont want to have to start fiddling with things i dont know about (switches and things are ok). It worked perfect until last week
Thanks for any help you could give

trust me mate, its either the operating system you have or the case!!! I had the exact same problem with my old AMD 500, when i took the case off for some reason it worked!! had the problem again removed the case and nothing, took everthing out and placed backin again and did a fresh install of windows......98 is the worst os i have eva seen then ME......******* ****
Sure ... you can't boot and the only thing to blame is the Windows :(
OS got nothing to do with this kind of bootup problems.
You didn't specify the exact sound of alert, here're few "beep" codes, you'll most likely find yours :
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lakes/3553/beeps.htm
http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/awardbeep.htm
http://www.computercraft.com/docs/beeps.html

I'd just check before if videocard and memory sticks are seated properly, as those are the most common causes of bootup problems.

Thanx for the suggestions. I have checkes the websites, and i cant find any that seem to be the beep sound. Imagine that a high beep is 1 and low beep is 2, when i boot up it goes 1212121212121............(like a police siren) until i switch it off at the plug. When i get it to boot up it works fine. I have checked the Vid Card and the Ram and they seem to be firmly in. Also the CDROM and my SCSI CDRW light up but ou cant eject the cd-tray.
Is this any help

The ram could be bad. Cpu may need to be reseated. Power supply going bad. Video card could be going bad.
And as ND said "OS got nothing to do with this kind of bootup problems."
How can Windows be causing the problem when the computer is first turned on? The computer has only got as far as the bios check when the computer is first turned on.

Cases:
1. Chassis intrusion alert is turned on and you run the system opened or badly closed or have not suth thing al all, but BIOS has.
2. The temperature of your CPU is too high (more than ~50-60C) if turned on.
3. The chassis fan and/or CPU fan isn't/aren't working properly (less than 2200RPM).

This doesnt help with your problem much, but if you hold power switch in for about 10 seconds it should switch off. At least you wont have to get up to turn off at the wall every time!

I'm sorry Linkin Park, but what ND and Imperium 1 said is absolutely right. POST issues have NOTHING to do with an OS .
I would love to hear more details about your problem, but it was'nt an OS problem.

Just had a thought tricktx, do you have on board virus checking in your BIOS. I had this problem a year ago. I turned off the AV in BIOs and everything was fine.

The Last time I had a problem like that I found it was my AGP Graphics Card..
Try Removing the Re-Inserting the CARD...

Thanks for all the tips, people, i have traced it to my AGP card because i placed a PCI card in and heard no beeps and replaced it with my AGP card (geforce2MX) and it beeped again. So any suggestions to why this happerns would be much appreciated, also holding the power button for 10 seconds does nothing.
Well#!!!! atleast my pc works but is this a sign that it will one day stop working, because i dont want to replace my Vid Card, and the guy at the shop just sez uh eh well um.......
