have a gateway solo 9300 laptop... was given the computer for free but had deleted harddrive and a password protected bios. so know i cant get in there to boot from cd rom... please help if you know how to reset the password:confused:

HI Welcome to sysopt,

I think the only way to get into the bios now is to clear the cmos.
I don't know if you can get to the batterie the same way you can with a Toshiba but it's the only way i know off.Succes

already tried the battery trick and all it did was reset the time!!

tried the killcmos application as well as rempass, and also tired site but sill have had no sucsess... thanks your your sugestions though...

I've never worked on a laptop before but can you access the motherboard and see if you can find a "clear cmos" jumper near the battery? [we are talking about the motherboard battery/ that has to be pulled not the laptop battery right?????] That is the battery you pulled right?

i have removed the motherboard battery and looked over the motherboard top to bottom and there are no jumpers on the board at all... im gonna try leaving the mob battery disconnected for bout 24 hours and see the if that clears the cmos ram......

:D maybe this doesn't have to be said,, but ,don't forget to remove the battery pack when shorting out the CMOS
