Howdy Folks...
Maybe we should band together and give Microsoft some ideas on where they could park their registration. I would really like to get XP but i won't because I don't want to mess with them everytime I want modify MY PUTER!
Just a thought...

Well, if you know where to look you can download stuff that can go around activation... Not that I promote that kind of activity though. Anyway, it's a violation of your privacy rights if they obtain anything other than info about your computer. You can sue them.

yeah right, if OJ can get away with murder i think our friend Bill who is much richer and smarter and has had more influence on society can get away with a bit of theft

True dat man, Bill is one rich mofo and can to get away with a lot of things. Now, if he was a truely nice person, he would send a $3000 check over my way so I could get a killer puter. I mean, whats 3K to gates? He's worth like $41billion (something like that), and another 3K wont put him down more than the smallest percent known to man!
If he wanted to he could give every person in the world $6.93 cents. That actually is a lot considering we got like 6billion peeps here on this planet. For some interesting facts about gates check here (http://www.quuxuum.org/~evan/bgnw.html) .

yeah but by saying that, technically you would have to go to some homeless bum on the street and hand him $500, what is $500 to you like maybe 1 week of work (after taxes)
point made :)

Microsoft's main focus, as with any business, is to make money. That is why they exist. I'm not sure that this new activation policy will generate more revenue. A lot of folks that I talk to will not jump into the XP arena because of this policy.

I try to protect my privacy and equipment from hacking, but I'm not sure that worrying about Microsoft's policy is as critical as how many bugs might be in this initial release of XP. That would stop me before the necessity to activate my software. I have no doubt that much of Microsoft's software is widely pirated. How can you blame them for trying to protect themselves. And if you begrudge Microsoft of making money, then you also begrudge yourself. So Gates is rich, look at what he accomplished. Others have had their chance, such as IBM. OS2 had Microsoft's support, until IBM screwed it up. Furthermore, I'd rather the richest man be an American then have some oil shiek who has produced nothing and hates our guts.

i dont per say HATE Bill Gates, he seems like a nice and VERY smart bussiness man who had his team come up with an easy to use OS
i just think it's pretty gay how you have to register XP just to use it, MS should just do what Blizzard did with Diablo1 and Diablo2 and Diablo2 Expansion. Blizzard made it so that if you burn the CD, that burned CD will not play and the CD drive will refuse to give it back, i had to turn my computer off then open the tray when the puter was booting up again
i tried to burn Diablo2 Expansion so me and my bro could play D2 at the same time, it sort of ticked me off that i could not do it but i totaly understand their position and i respect that, my version of Diablo2 and the Expansion set are totaly legal, i payed for them alright but they are in no way registered, NONE of my games are registered but they are all payed for and legal
any opinions?

I have the corporate edition which still uses the normal CD code. Maybe that's an idea?

I hate the WPA, registration thing, etc as much as any of you, BUT this is not the place to be discussing Warez (and the like) ways of circumventing software.
