what would happen if you installed a "very" old Hard disk drive of 250 MB capacity to a i440ZX motherboard? well I tried to do it and installed two old ones for keeping important files. would this make the CPU and mobo slow? the reason for installing is for file keeping only what would be the effect?

Older IDE drives will work just fine if they are ok...just slower than the newer drives. They wont affect the mainboard or anything else that I am aware of. I have an older 500 mb drive with some stored stuff on it. I need to plug it in sometime, and just burn all that stuff (mostly JPGs, ect) to a cd disk...would be faster access if I ever need the stuff, and wouldn't have to be rumminging around looking for where I put that old hard drive when I need the data...
