Any body with this Asus E612 Dvd Drive have this problems:

1.latency in cd/dvd access (because it switch to PIO mode not Dma .On box it stated ata-66 supported.

2.Because of PIO mode it hogs the cpu like there is no tomorrow

So guys ,is there any way to solve this sort of problem?

In bios, do you have all the drive and ide options set to auto?
ie. Primary Master/Slave, Secondary Master/Slave.

If its ATA66, are you using the 40pin 80wire ribbon cable?
If you are, you might want to try the 40pin 40wire ribbon cable to see how the drive works then.

With the 80pin cable performance is slightly better compared to the conventional one.

its a primary master on ide 2 bios set to auto detect .It reads udma mode 4,pio mode 4

Forgot to ask, what motherboard do you have?

In bios, try setting the Secondary Master and Slave UDMA to [AUTO]. Same for the PIO.

Also, in the CMOS Setup Utility, Set the IDE Secondary Master to NONE. Same for the Secondary Slave. Really, only need to set these to AUTO is there is a hard drive attached to one of them.

Try this and see how it works.
