According to what I've read it's possible to have up to 32 players in a CFS2 arena if it is hosted on one's home PC or private server.
Considering this I'm intending to host a full DiD arena on my PC once I have ADSL up and running, but I need some info from any of you guys who are au-fait with server/bandwidth shenanigans.
Initially my ADSL conn will allow 1.5mb in and 256kb out. Will this be sufficient for 32 players?
Security; I'm thinking of ways to keep the hackers and other riff-raff out. Can anyone suggest any firewall software that secures one's PC whilst allowing unfettered gameplay?

I'm also interested to hear of any details concerning multiple arenas on the one PC. I guess this is a software (CFS2's?) bandwidth issue?

Also hardware...is a high-speed HD necessary when running one's PC as an online server? How about RAM? More RAM obviates the need for a high-speed HD?

As you guys can see, I have a general idea of what's needed but any additional info/tips/advice would be gratefully received. I want to provide a place for serious DiD squads to do battle and any info that furthers that intention will be good for all.

Any links to useful FAQ sites would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your kind consideration in this matter, TM. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif

from what little i know your aim is awfully high. i'm sure someone else will tell you why it won't work as well as you would like.

I may be wrong but I think anyone who used to play SDoE, as host, was basically doing the same thing. I used to host most of the time because I had the fastest PC and connection at that time (a 56k modem doing about 45k).
The most players I ever had then was about twelve.
We did go thru the SDoE site but it was nothing more than a router. All games had to be hosted on one of the player's PC's.
Surely an ADSL conn will improve on that?
