Has anyone had good luck getting similiar gaming performance in Win2000/XP as they do/did in Win9x? I am having a heck of a time getting decent frame rates in UT or Q3A in Win2000. These are my specs:

Athlon XP 1600+ (1.4)
256MB DDR CAS 2
ASUS A7V266-E
ATI Radeon 64MB DDR ViVo
SB Live!Value
IBM 40GB 7200rpm ATA100 Drive
Pioneer 16X DVD
HP CD-RW 8/4/32

Any suggestions or links to tweak/help sites would be great.

I recently upgraded to XP - my Geforce 2 MX400 was really slow running UT until I loaded latest drivers.

ATI have XP drivers available at: http://support.ati.com/products/pc/radeon/radeon_drivers.html

I have had no probs running Q3.

You can also try the latest beta drivers for the Radeon cards here (http://www.rage3d.com/). I downloaded them for both my ATI Radeon 8500 and Radeon 32MB DDR and it works fine.

Thanks for the help. I'll download the latest drivers and see if it makes a difference.

For nvidia chipsets go to www.nvidia.com and download the latest Detonator drivers.

did you try cnet's website for upgrading your software to match win2k or win xp?

i remember when i first switched from 98se to 2k i had problems but all the updates fixed it

also make sure your video card has the right drivers
