Recently, I've decided to build a new computer using the new Soyo Dragon Plus with VIA KT266A chipset. Right now I'm having system stability problem. I'm using Windows 2000 Professional as my OS and from time to time, the system would freeze while browsing a internet web site or installing a new game/app or even in a middle of a playing a game. I've installed the latest VIa 4-in-1 driver pack (4.35v I believe), latest IDE Bus Mastering Controller driver (v.3014) and latest nVidia driver (Detonator 21.85). Anyone had experienced with this? Or know how to get around it? Below is my system configuration:

AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (no OC)
SOYO Dragon Plus Mobo
2x512MB Mushkin High Performance DDR-Ram (CL2)
2x60GIG IBM Deskpro HD
Pioneer 16x DVD
Plextor 12x10x32 CDRW
ASUS V8200 T5 Deluxe video card

I've also tried to change my BIOS memory setting to 2.5-3-3, no luck either. Please Help!

What's your power supply? You're running a GE3, two hard drives, two CD/DVD drives and an AthlonXP, not to mention the various fans that you'll need to cool a system like that... I sure hope you've got a good power supply to go with that.

My case has a 350W HEC power supply. It should be more then enough, no?

SURE YOU NEED MORE POWER!!!!:D

Seriously you do have quite a bit of stuff running there, might check and see if you disconnect a couple things it might not hang up.

Good Luck

PS... Welcome to SYSOPT!!!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try before I ship the motherboard back to the retailer for an exchange.

I've talk to the tech support from Mushkin (excellent people, and eager to help you out even if the problem might not be directly memory related), Soyo out in California and other people from different tech forums, they all told me too lower my bus speed to 100Mhz and try it. I did and what you know, my system actually lived thru 3 hours of 3DMark2001 benchmarking. Hate to compromise on my system, but if this is the only wayto run my system until maybe a new BIOS comes out, I guess I'll live with it for now.

PS. Glad to be on board:D
