I just installed a Super Orb in place of stock AMD heatsink and fan on top of a 900 Duron which is in a Shuttle AK31. Before the Orb I could oc to 1 ghz rock solid. (either 10x100 or 7.5x133) @ 39-40c.
After installing the Orb, I can only reach 9x100 or 7x133 @ 43-44c. Anything higher and I get windows protection fault or safe mode.
I know to put the stock hs/f back on. My question is why is this happening?
The Orb has two fans, bottom and top with two connectors.
The Duron is unlocked using defogger stuff.
AND would anyone like to buy a Super Orb cheap?

Another one gets burned by thermaltake....

I'll say. I'm not impressed at all.

was there also a change in thermal grease when you changed heatsinks? if so, try something like artic silver2...it should make a huge difference.

no change in thermak grease. Just the usual tiny bit of radio shack thermal pen. What's your take on the not being able to oc as much as I was?

sounds like a poorly designed heatsink...i'd try to return it as a defective unit. i am currently using a thermaltake volcano 5 (only because it was cheap) and my TB 1.4 is running 1.61GHz @44C max. standard issue aluminum fin heatsink w/ artic silver isn't too shabby......btw, the Vol 5 is almost identical to the retail AMD hsf, but it has ball bearings...deluxe ;)
