I don't know much about computers but I'm getting a new computer to use for non-linear video editing and I was wondering if it's necessary that I get a SCAASI hard drive? Thanks!

These guys have a GREAT info site on this subject but you have to dig a little to find the info. You can probably get by without a scsi drive if your application isn't too intense:

i'm not sure how intense your video editing requirements are but most, if not all, of the editors i know (professionals) and worked with have scsi drives. they say it's a whole lot better and faster. if you have the extra cash to spare i suggest you get the scsi.

I strongly don't recommend you to get SCSI hard disk. Nowadays SCSI doesn't offer much gain over EIDE (ATA-66).
The best storage solution is to get Abit motherboard with integrated RAID controller and couple of ATA-66 hard disks and you have already much better solution than SCSI (and cheaper one, because both SCSI hard disks and SCSI controllers are quite pricy).
Good luck

I have to disagree ED, SCSI is far superior to IDE drives in speed, reliability, expandability.

Let's see IDE channel (master, slave) = 2 drives, SCSI 15 devices, winner=SCSI

Don't let IDE RAID fool you, IDE drives are generally rated at BURST speed (the fastest is can achieve) SCSI drive are rated for throughput. SCSI drives are much more consistent across the whole platter. winner=SCSI.

Take lookey see at the best IDE drives, what is the MTBF? 500,000 hours?. SCSI 1 million +. And you want me to use multiple drives in RAID, so reliability is even LESS! winner=SCSI

Clear winner. steves1728 is correct also... Show me an IDE drive that is video rated....
