Does anyone know the preferred type of internal modem to hook up with a Creative Computer 52X mx?
A friend has one that was disengaged by a cable company, and he doesn't know what modem to use from the list in order to re-activate it. He (like me) is not a computer expert.
I know you have to go to settings...then control panel....then to modems, but then what? It shows that NO modem is selected.
Thanks for your help....

Well actualy the creative 52x mx is just the cd rom brand and speed. the computer has to be somthing different, if it dosnt say compaq, dell, hp, or hewlit packard, and so on then it was probably built by someone.
the best thing i can tell you is to turn the computer off and then take out the modem.
boot the computer up and let it go into windows .
then shut it down agian.
before you take the modem and put it back it make sure you right down all of the info off of the modem. both front and back. then put the modem back in the computer and boot the computer back up.
windows should find the modem and if it has drivers for it, then windows will find them automaticaly.
if windows does not have drivers then thats why you wrote down the info off of the modem. so you can reply with the info and we can help find the drivers for you.
on the other hand it could be built on to the motherboard. in that case you should have a motherboard cd or get the info on what type of motherboard it is and then you can get the drivers from the motherboards web site..
hope this helps

Try this:
Right click My Computer>Properties>Device Manager, then from the list, double click Modems. You should see the modem or modems Windows has installed on your pc. If ' Modem ' is not available in the list then either you dont have one installed or Windows does not recognize it. If you have 1 listed then this is likely the name of your modem. If you have more than one listed then more than one is installed. but we'll assume you have 1 at this point. Double click the modem and it should indicate in the window that " This device is working properly ".
Now go to Control Panel>Modems. In the General Tab , your modem should be listed in the box. If not, select ADD. Follow the Setup Wizard. If you get stuck , just ask for help.
BTW, I am assuming you've checked that a modem is physically installed in or on the pc and the phone cord is plugged into it and everything is on ready to go. Sorry, just checking.:) :)
